Tesoro Corporation CEO Visits TPH

Greg Goff kindly joined TPH on Aug 22 in the latest edition of our CEO Luncheon Series. TSO appointed Mr. Goff CEO and President in May 2010 and Greg shared his thoughts yesterday on the reason why he accepted the position and the transformation of the company under his watch. While admitting that he actually didn’t know much about TSO when he learned of the opportunity, the challenge of the “act of creation” with a legacy US refining company lured him from his nearly 30-year prior career at COP. Mr. Goff also touched on the challenges of the regulatory environment faced by US refiners (particularly in CA), the differences between managing E&P businesses at COP vs. TSO’s R&M focus, how the current length in crude/product inventories can get cleaned up and the utmost importance of workforce diversity of all facets. Greg’s leadership qualities were readily apparent during our 1+ hour town hall-style conversation.

Mr. Foutch brings unique experience to the public markets given his history in the private E&P world, with the successful startup and subsequent sale of Colt Resources (1996), Lariat Petroleum (2001) and Latigo Petroleum (2006). In addition, Mr. Foutch currently serves on the board of Helmerich & Payne and is a member of the National Petroleum Council. TPH Partners Forms Partnership with Antioch Energy

TPH Partners, the Houston-based energy private equity funds manager, announced today that it has partnered with Antioch Energy, an Oklahoma City oil and gas exploration and production company. With roots dating back three generations in oil and gas, Antioch Energy is led by Kevin Dunnington, Chief Executive Officer, and Nathaniel Harding, President. Antioch Energy changed its name from Harding & Shelton Exploration when the formative transaction closed earlier this month.

“Everyone on our management team has run their own independent oil and gas company and brings a tremendous amount of experience, technical expertise and knowledge to the table,” said Harding. “Add to that TPH Partners, considered one of the energy industry’s most respected private equity firms with extensive industry knowledge and relationships, and we feel we are extremely well positioned for future success.”

Antioch Energy currently operates properties in 10 counties, and expects its new partnership with TPH Partners to help provide for substantial growth. The company plans to focus on the acquisition and development of conventional and unconventional oil and gas properties primarily in Oklahoma. Antioch Energy is already in the process of leveraging its deep relationships to begin acquiring new assets, and it is anxious to exploit the upside in its existing properties as well.

“With our new partnership with TPH Partners enabling us to grow through both acquisition and further development of our existing assets, we are very excited about the future of Antioch Energy and look to continue our legacy of innovation for years to come,” said Dunnington.

“We had been looking for a quality Midcontinent team for quite some time, and when we were introduced to Kevin and Nathaniel we knew that’s what we had found. Their local knowledge, experience and focused business plan are exactly what we look for in a partner, and we are proud to add them to the TPH Partners family,” said Curt Schaefer, Managing Director of TPH Partners.

Antioch Energy’s offices will remain in the Harding & Shelton building located on the Bricktown canal in Oklahoma City.

TPH and V&E Host Energy Infrastructure Summit

Energy infrastructure continues to play a critical role in operational and investment decision-making for participants throughout the energy value chain. The outlook for the space has improved notably since the beginning of 2016 but is still not without its challenges. To discuss the current state of energy infrastructure, more than 200 leaders of the energy community converged on the Four Seasons Hotel this week for the annual TPH/V&E Energy Infrastructure Summit.

The summit began on the morning of September 20th and featured a “Who’s Who” of industry leaders sharing thoughts in front of a full house.

The morning featured Don Sinclair, President and CEO of Western Gas Partners, who discussed the state of competition, capital deployment and risk-taking amongst midstream companies.

The afternoon kicked off with Steve Kean, President and CEO of Kinder Morgan, who discussed the evolving North American energy landscape and the energy industry’s role in the environmental movement.

The conference also featured numerous panels weighing in on topics including public and private investment in both the midstream and upstream sectors, opportunities for investment in Mexico, and the future of the MLP structure and market.

The success of the TPH/V&E Energy Infrastructure Summit demonstrates the immense interest in the dynamic business of oil and gas transportation, logistics, refining and export. TPH is proud to have once again partnered with V&E to provide a forum for thought leadership to the energy industry.

Approximately 250 of our Canadian oil & gas industry friends, both old and new, joined us Monday evening at the Calgary Petroleum Club for the official christening of TPH’s expansion into this important segment of the global energy landscape. The firm’s efforts, which began a few years ago, are led by Canadian energy finance veterans Hilary Foulkes (Chair), Derek Wheatley (MD, Co-Head) and Richard Matthews (MD, Co-Head). While all acknowledged the inherent challenges currently faced by the Canadian oil & gas industry, the enthusiasm for the opportunities presented by this vast and diverse energy market was abundantly evident in our conversations. img_0075On Thursday, October 13th, the Oil & Gas Council awarded Bobby Tudor, Chairman and CEO of Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., with a Lifetime Achievement Award honoring his decades of outstanding contributions to the energy industry.

“It was a pleasure to join this tribute to Bobby’s contributions to the industry. Bobby Tudor was previously a partner with Goldman Sachs prior to founding Tudor Capital. During his nearly 20-year career with Goldman Sachs, he worked in the New York, London and Houston offices, in varying capacities including head of southwest region and head of European industrial & natural resources group. Tudor holds a BA in English and Legal Studies from Rice University and a JD from Tulane Law School.
