With E&P operators in North American unconventional plays largely embracing a well “manufacturing” mindset, OFS companies with a like-minded approach to serving E&P customers (maximizing well-site efficiencies, minimizing non-productive time, etc.) should be well positioned competitively going forward. Given Arty spent most of his career in senior industrial / oilfield manufacturing-oriented roles before taking the helm of small-cap, diversified OFS player Mammoth in Feb-16 (against the backdrop of ~$30/bbl WTI), we found his key lessons learned (e.g., importance of having right folks in right seats, affording managers the freedom to lead while holding them accountable, being obsessed about continuous improvement, never compromising on safety) to be instructive. In addition, Mammoth’s take on the U.S. pressure pumping market (company serves Marcellus/Utica and Mid-Continent region) is consistent with our own, which is to say that incremental customer demand is still comfortably outpacing supply, so frac fleet utilization/pricing continuing to trend higher.

On June 5-6, TPH hosted our Powder River Basin Mini-Conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Denver. We had a great response to the topic and saw over 200 members of the oil and gas community participate. The attendees came from the E&P, midstream and financial sectors of the industry, and we were impressed to see that nearly half the attendees were from outside the PRB looking to learn more about the basin. The conference kicked off with a networking happy hour Monday evening, followed by a day of speakers and panelist discussions touching on a wide range of topics key to understanding the history and future of the Powder River Basin.
Thanks to all who were able to attend the conference and a special thanks to all the speakers and panelists who helped make this such a successful event. Judging from level of participation and the buzz from the crowd during the networking breaks, we’re excited about what is next to come in the Powder River Basin.

Alex Andreichuk is a Managing Director in Investment Banking focused on international energy clients. Alex joined the Perella Weinberg Partners energy team in 2009 from Credit Suisse’s European Energy Group. Prior to that Alex was an engineer with Parsons Brinckerhoff and served as a Captain in the United States Army in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Alex received a BS in Civil Engineering and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Notre Dame, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

With investors acutely focused on North American oilfield activity as of late, we enjoyed the opportunity hear from the lead executive of global oilfield services provider PKD (rental tools, specialized int’l and U.S. drilling services; ~70% of revenue generated internationally). Following a 25-year career at Baker Hughes, Mr. Rich joined the Parker team in 2012 and hit the ground running with the acquisition of International Tubular Services (int’l rental tools company) shortly after his arrival in April 2013. From a management perspective, Mr. Rich shared his desire to instill a more returns-oriented culture into PKD’s DNA via aligning management incentives with generating attractive ROCE (a key driver of OFS stock performance historically), focusing on economies-of-scale in int’l drilling geo-markets, targeting expansion of O&M business, etc. Won’t happen overnight as the current pricing environment internationally is challenging to say the least, but we like the strategic direction in which this company is headed going forward.

Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. (“TPH”) today named Geraldine Murphy a Managing Director in its Investment Banking business. Based in London, Ms. Murphy will provide strategic and financial advice to clients in the energy sector. Effective immediately, Ms. Murphy will also join TPH’s Leadership Council.
Ms. Murphy has more than 25 years of energy advisory experience leading a broad range of merger and acquisition assignments, including several landmark cross-border transactions. She was most recently Global Head, Oil and Gas Corporate Advisory at Standard Chartered Bank. Prior to that, Ms. Murphy was a Founding Member and Managing Director at Harrison Lovegrove, an oil and gas advisory boutique that was later sold to Standard Chartered. Ms. Murphy began her career as a geologist.

On Wednesday, July 19, TPH hosted a group of Appalachian Basin focused industry professionals at the Pittsburgh Pirates game at beautiful PNC Park. While the 90 degree game time temperatures were more reminiscent of Houston than Western Pennsylvania, we enjoyed a fantastic evening with our clients and colleagues. The Pirates beat the Brewers in extra innings and one of our guests made a great barehanded snag on a foul ball. Thanks to all for joining us and making it a great evening.
